Now, granted, if you have a real kid, beading projects are best put on hold. We know how our children like to put things in our mouths, but for those who can control that impulse there is lots of projects that they could take part in.
Any kind of craft project at home that you could do as a family is a good one. You're taking quality time with your kids, they are learning coordination and building self esteem. You may even be fostering their life long career.
You don't require to have a grand craft shop available to you. Local stores like Wal-Mart, or K-Mart carry kits with the age limits already suggested on the boxes. If you've a Michael's, AC Moore, or other craft store I'm sure they'll have a wider variety of beading projects available to you. Some Large chain book stores, even sell instructional book for kids complete with long bright how to instructions and all supplies needed to finish the task.
Beads are a great place to start. All you need to be able to do is thread string or leather or what have you, through a bead. They are available in bright colors, a number of sizes, and even in fun shapes. If they make something they don't like, just take them off and start again. Nothing is lost but time, and you can argue that that time spent was a teaching lesson all the same. They learned they did not like that.
Sharing is taught, since they might need to share beads with you, siblings, or friends. They it is an excellent strategy to teach giving; because if they love it, and make a lot, then they can give their time and skill as a gift to others.
